Developing Student Metacognition through Reflective Writing in an Upper Level Undergraduate Anatomy Course

Incorporating metacognitive strategies in the classroom helps students monitor and adjust their learning strategies throughout the semester, and helps students progress from novice to expert learners in a subject. Journaling (i.e., reflective writing) is one metacognitive task that allows students to contemplate and articulate their skill development as they learn a new subject. The research reported here examines the use of ‘blogs’ (i.e., online journals) in an upper level undergraduate human anatomy course. The blogs both facilitated development of students' metacognitive skills and provided researchers insight into student metacognitive process. Data were examined from 92 students from three successive semesters (spring 2010, 2012 and 2014). Each student reviewed 10 radiology online cases throughout the semester and then reflected on their understanding of anatomy and radiology in an online blog for each case. A total of 927 blogs were examined for this research. The researchers used a grounded theory approach to analyze the blog narratives and develop a codebook based on common themes. The 927 blogs yielded 11,082 statements that were coded with the codebook. As the semester progressed, the blog entries showed that students demonstrated greater self-confidence in their abilities to understand the subject matter, expressed greater enthusiasm for anatomy in general, and they improved their metacognitive skills. This research illustrates that reflective writing in an undergraduate anatomy course not only facilitates improvement in student metacognitive skills, but also provides the instructor with evidence how a student progresses from novice to more experienced learner in anatomy.  相似文献   

Affordances of using Multiple Videoed Events to construct a rich understanding of adult–child book readings

This paper explores the affordances of using video-based research to capture a multiplicity of events, along with multimodal representations when producing data related to adult–child book readings. In doing this we answer two questions: (1) why more than one event is needed when seeking a comprehensive collection of information for the purpose of analysis; and (2) why one mode of data production alone (e.g. audio recordings or note taking) is insufficient to record practice or interviews when richness is of priority. This research used three videoed events to produce data. These included videoing: (1) caregiver–child interactions during four shared book reading sessions, (2) interviews with caregivers immediately following each of the reading sessions and (3) video-stimulated discussions with caregivers within two months of the final shared book reading. In this paper, I contribute to discussions that highlight the affordances of using video-based research as a means of capturing the multimodal elements of an experience, which can contribute to the analysis and interpretation of data. I expand on this, however, to suggest that when coupled with a multiplicity of events, video-based research can be a means of pursuing richness via a method that has been criticized for its narrow subjectivity.  相似文献   

基于BP神经网络的共享服务平台资源信息质量评价研究——以短租类共享服务平台为例

[目的/意义] 以短租类共享服务平台为例，构建共享服务平台资源信息质量评价指标体系，帮助此类平台企业高效地识别出存在信息质量问题的资源，提高平台整体的信息质量水平。[方法/过程] 首先基于信息传播学相关理论，对共享服务平台信息传播过程进行总结。然后根据共享服务平台信息传播的参与主体和访谈原始资料分析，构建共享服务平台资源信息质量评价指标体系，分为信源质量、信息内容质量和信息效用质量三个维度。最后提出基于BP神经网络的信息质量评价方法，并使用Matlab2018a软件对采集的100组样本数据进行训练和仿真验证。[结果/结论] 提出共享服务平台资源信息质量评价指标体系，并以短租类共享服务平台为例运用BP神经网络进行验证，实验证明该评价指标体系具有一定的可行性和实用性。  相似文献   

Ethical and political dimensions of action research and lesson study: reflections from a research project on a controversial issue in Cyprus

ABSTRACT

As educational interventions that integrate death issues in the school curriculum are rarely designed, implemented and evaluated, our action research (AR) project aimed at investigating the complexities of integrating the concepts of loss and grief in the primary school curriculum of Cyprus. The purpose of this paper is to identify and analyze convergences and divergences between AR and lesson study (LS), as they emerged in our project. We particularly focus on the ways that AR served to legitimate ethically and politically those aspects of the project that constituted the experimentation of lesson plans on loss and grief. The AR and LS elements of our project functioned differently and served different purposes, and we speculate that this is not irrelevant to the controversial aspects of the lesson plans’ topic, namely loss and grief. The paper argues that it may be strategically important, for ethical and political reasons, to both demarcate and associate AR and LS, navigating between them, particularly if a controversial issue is involved.  相似文献

As this edition articulates, difference takes many forms, is intersectional, and is often characterized and codified by and through educational research. 修身：一个久被忽略的武术研究领域*——来自林语堂“闲适文学”东冷西热现象的启示

运用文献资料、历史分析研究方法，以林语堂“闲适文学”之东冷西热现象为借鉴启示，对武术修身在清末民初、民国迄今所遭遇的历史境遇和今天所迎来的时代发展机遇进行论述。旨在呼吁新时期社会条件下，修身将作为武术之一重要价值的彰显，以促进武术未来发展之路更加宽广。主要结论：1）是社会历史发展的现实基础而非林语堂“闲适文学”的优劣，决定了其“东冷西热”现象的发生，及其独特的历史命运和遭际。2）修身在武术研究中地位的历史演绎，经历了清末民初作为提升武术文化层次和社会地位的主要抓手，到民国迄今伴随“科学”彰显对武术修身的理论忌讳及掩蔽这样两个历史节点。3）当今社会语境下修身又迎来了适宜的成长土壤；武术研究者应紧扣时代脉搏，关注修身这一武术理论研究新动向；既是武术之理论研究跟随历史演进步伐，更广层面、更深层次地造福于人类生活，也是武术自身能够在当今社会获得更广阔发展空间的一条重要途径。  相似文献   

近五年我国体育学研究热点领域及未来趋势

为发现我国近五年体育学研究热点领域及其未来趋势，使用布拉德福定律分区理论，对体育学16种核心期刊2013-2017年所刊论文的关键词进行分层研究。通过关键词在核心区分布的整体和年度分析，结果发现：①整体分析，近5年体育学最热门的研究主题为：竞技体育、体育管理、群众体育、学校体育、体育教育、体育文化、体育史、民族传统体育、体育经济和体育产业；②年度分析，体育学研究热点随时间发生波动性变化；③体育学研究热点的三个层次：第一层次包括竞技体育、体育管理、群众体育和体育教育，是近年及未来体育学研究的重点；第二层次包括学校体育和体育史，学校体育的研究逐步得到重视；第三层次包括民族传统体育、体育文化、体育产业和奥运会；④研究热点随年份的变化：最重要热点竞技体育、体育管理、群众体育、体育教育表现出持续性和稳定性；次重要热点学校体育和体育史的变化表现出差异性，揭示了研究热点的未来趋势；边缘性热点民族传统体育、体育文化、体育产业和奥运会波动性大，偶然性明显。  相似文献   

Data Visualization as Participatory Research: A Model for Digital Collections to Inspire User-Driven Research

The emerging creative practices of digital collections are increasing in prominence thanks to the access to, and appeal of, data visualizations. Interactive data visualizations, such as a map, timeline, chart, graph, or artist’s rendering of data, enable users to pursue their own research interests within a collection and participate in new areas of research. Use of these data visualizations enhances the scope of the collection and enables a modern and diverse thematic collection to emerge. This article considers the question: Does the addition of data visualizations affect how users participate with a research collection? Impacts on collection development, application of user-centered design, and analysis of users’ exploratory strategies are discussed. 数据管理能力成熟度模型比较研究与启示

[目的/意义] 对比分析数据管理能力成熟度模型，为图书馆选择与应用数据管理能力成熟度模型提供参考方案。[方法/过程] 通过模型文本的研究，介绍各模型的结构。采用比较分析法从评价维度（功能域）的设置、模型的组织体系、评价标准与规则、可操作性、公开度等5个方面对7个数据管理能力成熟度模型进行评析。[结果/结论] 每个模型具有其特色功能。CMMI、DMM、DCAM和中国DCMM的评价维度较为全面，中国DCMM即中国-数据中心服务能力成熟度模型具有较强的操作性，且其定量与定性相结合的评价方法值得借鉴。研究数据管理的能力成熟度模型（雪城大学秦健教授团队）和研究数据管理能力成熟度模型（澳大利亚ANDS）考虑图书馆数据管理的实际情况，可作为首选模型。基于各模型的对比与评析结果，形成3种适应不同情境的图书馆选择与应用数据管理能力成熟度模型的方案。  相似文献
